Yes, Phil Spencer’s started playing Metaphor: ReFantazio

Xbox has had few games this year that have really captured the attention of its community. Starting with Palworld in January, perhaps including Dragon’s Dogma II in March and Hellblade II in May, it’s been pretty quiet overall. However, one game to buck the trend has definitely been Atlus’ Metaphor ReFantazio.

Sitting at a 93 Metacritic, Xbox have also benefited from marketing rights to the game, meaning whenever trailers are shown in a marketing context, they feature Xbox logos and intros/outros. In fact, we’ve seen some great execution of this, particularly in Asia:

Given Phil Spencer was recently at Tokyo Game Show chatting to the Atlus devs, it’s hardly surprising he’s fired the game up to give it a go. He’s currently only played once, for about 80 minutes, but we’ll keep our eyes on his progress (incidentally, the only other game he’s played this week was…you guessed it, Diablo IV). He’s posted about his experiences though and is clearly loving it!

If you want to try it for yourself, there’s a demo available which gives you a very generous chunk at the start of the game to play.

You can keep tabs on Phil’s progress over on our aptly named Phil Tracker.
