Who’d have thought our Xbox DEFCON ratings would be getting updated so soon after their inception? Well, most people, which is why we decided to get them out there at the start of this year instead of waiting longer.
Anyway, the thing happened and Forza Horizon 5 has been officially announced for PlayStation 5. Originally, we had this condition (“Legendary Xbox IP (Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza) come to PlayStation or Nintendo a considerable time (18 months+) after release”) higher up the ratings (DEFCON 2 in fact!), but as it has come to pass sooner than some of the others (particularly non-licensed and non-existing IP appearing on other platforms on Day One) we have now moved it down.

We’ve also re-phrased it to emphasise that the games are only appearing on PlayStation after a significant period of time (18 months+), which I think is acceptable to a lot of people. Once things are going day and date though it’s a different matter. It also then makes sense that it is lower than the new DEFCON 3, which is in relation to key first party titles appearing on PlayStation or Nintendo “some time after launch”, with the focus there being the length of time that takes. If Avowed goes to PlayStation in 12 months or less, I think we can consider DEFCON 3 reached.
