Current Xbox DEFCON Ratings (Jan 22nd 2025)

With recent rumours (or perhaps they should be called leaks) once again bringing to the surface thoughts about first party Xbox games going to PlayStation and Nintendo, we thought we’d put together a DEFCON rating chart of sorts to assess where we actually are right now compared to DEFCON 1: all first party games launching day one on PlayStation or Nintendo, with Xbox as a third party publisher.

And here it is:

Don’t hate us for DEFCON 5 not having the lowest description it could – technically maybe it should be NO first party games on any other platform (even PC), but that’s not been the reality on Xbox for a decade and we’re not going back there, so it seemed redundant to do it like that.

There’s also a chance we could skip ahead in these ratings – for example, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Halo: Master Chief Collection could appear on Switch 2 or PlayStation 5 (DEFCON 3) after the likes of South of Midnight turn up there on day one (DEFCON 2). To be honest, there was little to choose between 2 & 3 in terms of likelihood or palatability, so let’s just wait and see there.

We’ll update the chart if (when) things progress! We are, of course, currently at the lowest level, DEFCON 5, which is some games going to other platforms on a case-by-case basis, and after a period of exclusivity. That seems likely to change pretty soon…
