A game that had been thought cancelled or at the very least in development hell, Rare’s Everwild has resurfaced of late – first through comments last week on Jez Corden & Rand Al Thor’s Xbox Two podcast that it was finally “progressing well”.
We’ve now had confirmation from Phil Spencer himself that Everwild is indeed still in active development, and is in a playable state. The CEO of Microsoft Gaming has been in the UK visiting Rare and playing the game.
We still don’t know exactly what Everwild entails. While the original trailer looked promising, it wasn’t clear what genre or gameplay loop the game would feature. We also heard from the studio themselves that they didn’t quite know the direction it was going in. Things definitely seem more positive now, however, and we can’t wait to get a full update on the game, hopefully at some point next year.

Everwild is doomed now.
Crazy that Ghost of Yotei will launch before Everwild, a game that was announced BEFORE the release of Ghost of Tsushima lol. That Xbox “roadmap” means NOTHING.
Phil visiting studios and doing his job as a spokesperson for the brand shouldn’t be conflated with the quality of a finished product? The use of nicknames here doesn’t strengthen your position either.
I think Everwild’s elongated dev cycle and skewed expectations (owing to its arguably premature announcement) are more likely to have a negative impact that an executive on a UK tour…
